Dr Pimple Popper helps a man achieve his daughter’s dream of taking her to the mall after curing one of the ‘worst cases of psoriasis’ she’s ever seen.
We’ve all got that one friend who just loves to pop pimples, which is something they have in common with Dr Pimple Popper – except she’s a qualified doctor. The morbid fascination with what comes out of the human body has kept this TLC show running for the last six years. Brace yourselves fellow poppers, in this latest episode Dr. Lee helps a man with ‘one of the worst cases of Psoriasis’ she’s ever seen.
Johnnie wants to get better for one simple wish – to take his daughter to the mall
Johnnie from Tallahassee, Florida, opens up in the episode about his illness and the detrimental impact it has on his life. He has Psoriasis “all the way from the top of his head to the bottom of his feet.”
Clearly unable to stop itching, even throughout the filming, a suffering Johnnie tells the cameras, “My skin feels real dry, and it’s cracking all the time.” He frequently has to “scratch himself raw.”
His illness began back in 2002 with a simple, single pimple that he popped. Nervous at what came out, he went to see a nurse who gave him a bottle of “holy water”.
When that didn’t work Johnnie went to see a dermatologist in 2017 who confirmed it was psoriasis and gave another failing treatment.
Johnnie’s main reason for wanting to recover is his 12-year-old daughter, who would love for him to “go hang out at the mall” with her. She gives him a heartbreaking talking-to about the lack of time they get to spend together.
Her upset father assures her he’s always thinking of her, but it is the illness that holds him back.
‘You look like a different man’
Johnnie meets with Dr. Lee to detail his history, and she confirms that it is “one of the worst cases of psoriasis” that she has ever seen.
Lee investigates his body, confirming the white, flaking sections of skin are ‘plaque psoriasis’. While the dark scarring is from previous plaques he has been unable to stop scratching.
Sweet Johnnie is moved by the interaction, saying Dr. Lee is the “first doctor who’s sat down and talked to me that long.” Lee shows him how to administer an injection to see how the patient gets on.
Eight weeks after treatment, we revisit Johnnie to see a completely new man. He exits the house, complete with a fresh haircut, and there are no white plaques in sight.
“You look like a different man,” says his daughter, confirming, “you look good.” Before quickly telling him, it’s time to get to the mall and buy her some shoes!
