Cathy Barriga’s video today: What is the former mayor’s new viral clip?

Recently, many have been immersed in the new video of Cathy Barriga that has been circulating intensely through social media. The former mayor of Maipú, who was recently involved in a legal scandal that culminated in the revocation of her house arrest and the imposition of preventive detention, has captured the public’s attention today.

The video, which shows Barriga dancing with inmates, has caused a stir, especially after the decision of November 12, 2024, in which the Chilean justice system charged her with tax fraud, amounting to approximately $31 billion Chilean pesos.

Video of Cathy Barriga dancing with the inmates

This Thursday, the Chilevisión morning show surprised the public by revealing a video recorded inside the San Miguel Women’s Penitentiary Center, where Cathy Barriga can be seen leading a dance class .

The former mayor, known for her participation in the television program Mekano, dressed completely in pink to perform the song Procura by Chichi Peralta.

In the images, recorded by an inmate, a voice can be heard commenting ironically: “it gives color,” causing a stir on social media.

The leak of the video has put Barriga back in the spotlight, especially considering that he is currently serving preventive detention in module No. 2 of the prison, a measure imposed while an investigation into alleged tax fraud and falsification of public instruments advances.

Cathy Barriga’s Precautionary Measure

Barriga had been under house arrest for nearly a year, but the plaintiffs from the Municipality of Maipú requested a review of his precautionary measures, arguing risks in the judicial process.

The court therefore ordered preventive detention for a period of 90 days, a decision that was ratified by the Court of Appeals after attempts by his defense to appeal.

Despite her legal status, this is not the first time that images of the former mayor participating in activities inside the prison, such as Zumba classes, have been leaked. This has raised questions about the treatment she receives and the perception of privileges in her confinement.

The case of Cathy Barriga continues to be a media issue that divides opinions, both because of the charges against her and because of the images that, according to critics, reflect a lack of flexibility in the conditions of her pretrial detention.
