Courtney Green is trying to raise awareness through TOWIE about TAY SACHS disease in honor of her gorgeous nephew Marley who was diagnosed this year.
The Only Way is Essex star Courtney Green has been blessed with three beautiful nephews in her family. Happily welcoming the most recent boy on August 10, this year has also proved to be challenging: her middle nephew was sadly was diagnosed with Tay Sachs disease. In a sweet video shared by TOWIE, Courtney gets to spend some quality time with the little ones.
Courtney gave heartbreaking statement about Tay Sachs
In a heartbreaking statement in early October, 2024, Courtney Green told the ITVBe cast, and her followers on Instagram, her nephew has a rare neurodegenerative disorder known as Tay Sachs disease.
The Instagram post said: “It’s hard to find the words, this has taken a lot of strength for my family to speak about. My beautiful nephew Marley has been diagnosed with a rare fatal genetic disorder called Tay-sachs.”
“We are all beyond heartbroken and this is going to be the most challenging time for us as a family. The only thing keeping me strong is seeing the strength of my sister and Danny along with Marley who’s such a fighter, strong and happy boy.”
The symptoms of infantile Tay Sachs disease usually start when a child is around 3-6 months old, including seizures, difficulty swallowing and loss of vision. While there is currently no cure, the condition is usually fatal by 3 to 5 years, often the result of complications from lung infections.
Courtney is keen to use her platform on TOWIE to “raise awareness about rare genetic disorders so that no one had to go through what we are currently going through.”
Courtney spends quality time with her bright nephews
In a clip released from the TOWIE X account on October 28, Courtney is seen in an endearing moment with her two oldest nephews.
The eldest of the pair inspected his younger brother, Marley’s, belly where he has a tube to provide him with liquid.
“Gentle” Courtney told him before she asked the child, “What’s it [the medical device] called?”
Her nephew responded: “Button.”
Before she added: “It’s Marley’s special button.”
The moment is especially endearing as the brother knew exactly what this ‘special button’ was for, he told his aunt: “The water goes in there. And it goes in his tummy and not going in the mouth.”
“You must have clean hands,” he instructed while Courtney is seen in the background giggling.
What an incredible brother to know so much about looking after his siblings, if Courtney’s ambition is to raise awareness about this disease, there’s almost no cuter way to do it.
“Marley is incredible though isn’t he? He just gets on with it,” the reality star said, before cooing about how “gorgeous” her nephew is.
