A whole lot of excitement is in the air this November as a brand new I’m A Celebrity season kicks off on ITV. Big names in the showbiz world are trading their luxury lifestyles for weeks in a jungle camp, basic meals, and the iconic Bushtucker Trials.

Barry McGuigan is one of the stand-out I’m A Celebrity series 24 stars. He, GK Barry, Dean McCullough, and Danny Jones have ITV viewers chatting on X (Twitter) this November. The stars are wasting no time in getting stuck into the challenges this year. Poor Barry has fans convinced he “needs glasses,” as he tries to collect stars for the camp. He actually underwent eye surgery over a decade ago.

Barry McGuigan ‘needs glasses’

I’m A Celebrity fans are all saying the same thing on X and Reddit this November.

After seeing former professional boxer Barry take on his first challenge, many viewers are taking to social media to ask if his “item from home is going to be his glasses.”

More ask: “Barry are you going to take your glasses into the Jungle?”

Another tweets: “Barry should have been able to use his glasses for that challenge. I feel like if he had his glasses he would have smashed that challenge.”

More echo the same message, writing: “If Barry needs glasses this trial for him is ridiculous.”

And: “Barry mate I think you need glasses, however, that was such an entertaining challenge.”

Barry’s eye surgery

As many I’m A Celebrity fans “feel” for Barry this Autumn, others are relating to his apparent “need for glasses.”

However, the absence of any form of specs has some wondering if the sportsman wears contact lenses.

Eleven years ago, Barry reportedly opted for “life-changing” surgery which gave him “20/20 vision.”

Speaking to The Express, Barry explained how his “eyesight began to weaken at the age of 39.”

He said the muscles around his eyes were affected by spending time: “…flying across the Atlantic a lot and reading loads of statistics in poor light…”

“I was struggling to read, present, and coach properly. I started wearing glasses and from then my sight continued to deteriorate quickly,” Barry adds.

It was at this time he decided to opt for laser eye surgery. Barry underwent laser blended vision treatment at the London Vision Clinic in Harley Street.

Laser eye surgery or LASIK is reportedly said to last for life, so it’s unlikely Barry’s item from home will be some glasses. However, it’ll probably end up an ongoing joke of this year’s series!
