Jose Mourinho has broken his silence on reports linking Cristiano Ronaldo with a move to Fenerbahce.
Ronaldo, who currently plays for Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr has scored 69 goals in 80 matches for the Riyadh club.
The 39-year-old is under contract until next summer but he is widely expected to sign a new deal, either with Al-Nassr or another club, as he targets 1,000 career goals.
A report by Cadena SER this week claimed Mourinho phoned Ronaldo and asked him to join Fenerbahce.
The Portuguese boss has now responded to the rumour after his side’s 6-2 win over Kayserispor on Saturday, saying: ‘News about Cristiano Ronaldo to Fenerbahçe are ridiculous.
‘Cristiano might come to Istanbul to eat because it’s right in the middle of the road between Saudi and Portugal. Or maybe he’ll come see his old friend Jose, we can eat at my hotel!’
Mourinho had reportedly said to Ronaldo: ‘Are you happy there? It’s being rumoured that you want to leave. If you go, would you like to come to Fenerbahce?’
He managed the veteran striker during their time together at Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013.
Despite turning 40 in February, Ronaldo has shown no signs of slowing down at club and international level.
He scored the 911th goal of his senior career in Al-Nassr’s 2-1 home loss against Al Qadsiah on Friday
The former Manchester United star last week insisted his focus remains on football, with retirement depending on his motivation levels
‘I just want to enjoy [myself],’ Ronaldo said. ‘Plan for retirement? If it has to happen, in one or two years… I don’t know. I’m turning 40 soon.
‘I really want to enjoy, as long as I feel motivated I keep going. The day I don’t feel motivated, I will retire.’
