Mary Schmucker is currently in a hospice, as revealed by her daughter-in-law Rebecca, who is married to son Abe. Now in her late 60s, the TLC star announced she was leaving Return to Amish in May 2022.
The Pennsylvania native had colon cancer surgery in April 2022. She later revealed in a Facebook post later that month that she has stage three cancer which is almost at stage four.
Mary shared a new cancer update in October 2022 and said her “tumor has shrunk 40 percent.” She also revealed that she could not go down the chemotherapy route which was previously suggested to her.
However, Rebecca is now asking for prayers from Return to Amish and Breaking Amish fans, who consider Mary a former favorite of the cast. She announced she would not return to TV after her exit.
Return to Amish star ‘not good’
Rebecca Schmucker claims Mary “isn’t doing good” and is “in a lot of pain” while in hospice care. She asked fans for prayers for her mother-in-law, who currently “cannot keep food down”.
She wrote, “Her pain has been so bad and they are helping with that. If you could, flood her with positive messages and pray for her to be comfortable and pain free. Thank you!”
In September, Abe’s wife shared photos of Mary enjoying quality time with her grandchild and enjoying the outdoors. It comes a year after she was shunned from the Old Amish church.
Fans are flooding Rebecca’s comments with prayers, with many saying Mary is “deeply loved” and a “family anchor”. One viewer said, “Stay strong! Holding you in the light and wishing you a swift recovery.”
